1626 - Death of Francis Bacon, English Renaissance polymath Aye, now there was a man among men. And our current *cough* President, immediately on taking possession of the White House, promptly sent back the but of Sir Winston (which had been in the Oval Office since 9-11) to Buckingham Palace.

What do you mean? Why the cough, is he or is he not your President? What was the "but of Sir Winston" and why was it introduced to the Oval Office on 9-11 (weren't there more pressing matters that day)? And, what ever the "but" was, had Buckingham Palace been asking for its return?

I'm guessing the "but" is meant to be "bust." A bronze bust of Churchill, by Sir Jacob Epstein, was loaned to the US after the 9/11 attack and has since been returned, as arranged before Obama's Presidency. There was an offer to extend the loan but this was declined. Speculation has it that Obama had reservations about Churchill as it was under his leadership that his grandfather was tortured by the colonial regime in Kenya. Perhaps too he had reservations on his Irish side about British excesses there under Bro. Churchill.
