This is NOT an open forum. If that is what you want, there are plenty of them from which to choose. This forum is intended as a refuge from some of the abuses prevalent elsewhere on the internet.
Upon registration, an applicant's account will be pending until a staff member (presently only myself) approves or denies the application. Approval will be given if the staff member is familiar with the applicant or if they have been recommended by a Senior Member. Failing that I will contact them by email, saying:
If I receive a satisfactory reply I will approve the application. If, after a week, I have received no reply, I will deny the application, stating:
As can be seen, this is a fairly perfunctory vetting process in which there is nothing personal and to which no offense need be taken.
Non-members are still able to post under Guest Book (open slather).
Members can also start threads and post replies elsewhere on the forum, plus they are able to view and participate in topics under the Members' Lounge, which can only be by logging-in.
Once a member has established a positive reputation on the forum they may be offered or apply to be a Senior Member and have access to the Seniors' Section, where a further level of privacy applies.

Dear Bro. [Username],
I see you have applied to join our work at The Quarry Masonic Forum: Thank you.
Sadly, I am, as yet unfamiliar with you and acceptance of applications depends on assuring myself that you meet the criteria of credibility and civility I have set (masonic affiliation is not a criterion). I wish to avoid sensible discussions being diverted by talk such as that about conspiracy theories and alien interventions or by foul language and personal attacks, which can happen on open forums.
I would be grateful if you could please tell me something about yourself (at least where you hail from and whether or not you agree with the set criteria) so, for my part, I may decide whether or not to accept your application (as I hope).
Yours truly, Philip Carter, JP

P.S. There is no need to disclose your real name or revealing private details.
