He [Lysenko] is responsible for the shameful backwardness of Soviet biology and of genetics in particular, for the dissemination of pseudo- scientific views, for adventurism, for the degradation of learning, and for the defamation, firing, arrest, even death, of many genuine scientists
Andrei Sakharov, 1964

Least scientific members of the House Science CommitteePaul Broun's not the only GOP member of the House Science Committee who's a bit iffy on the whole science thing The article then goes on to list others on this US science committee who hold opinions which are non-sciencical (pun).
Here is a fuller version of what Broun had to say: God's word is true. I've come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution, embryology, Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell. It's lies to try to keep me and all the folks who are taught that from understanding that they need a savior. There's a lot of scientific data that I found out as a scientist that actually show that this is really a young Earth. I believe that the Earth is about 9,000 years old. I believe that it was created in six days as we know them. That's what the Bible says. And what I've come to learn is that it's the man- ufacturer's handbook, is what I call it. It teaches us how to run our lives individually. How to run our families, how to run our churches. But it teaches us how to run all our public policy and everything in society. And that's the reason, as your congressman, I hold the Holy Bible as being the major directions to me of how I vote in Washington, D.C., and I'll continue to do that
Paul Broun It seems the practice of favouring the appointment of people ideologically to economic regulation to positions as regulators (e.g. Greenspan) has its parallel in the field of science.

In this case, the involvement of politics in science is manifest in the extreme disempowerment and lethal, tortuous exploitation of the victims and in the interference of the subsequent judicial process.

It's scientifically impossible for the bumblebee to fly; but the bumblebee, being unaware of these scientific facts, flies anyway( Bumblebee fallacy) Mike Huckabee US Republican presidential candidate, former Governor of Arkansas and Southern Baptist minister (as a young earth creationist, he rejects evolution and other elements of modern science like heliocentricism, gravity and math. But agreed with fellow Republican Rep. Todd Akin's concept of "legitimate rape")
