Magick, as such, properly belongs under the "Nature and Science" category. However, knowing, how the subject may wander, I have placed the topic under that of "Comparative Religions Mythologies and Religions," to allow for divergent views and responses.

In brief, the principal object and subject of magick is one’s self. Even so, the effect may appear to be more diffuse, given that the underlying reality is one of unity. Magick is essentially a matter of purpose, desire, concentration and confidence. The magician first decides exactly what outcome is desired; making it so vivid in their anticipation that s/he can visualise the achievement in association with themself, at some specific time (colour, feel, quantity, etc.). By way of contrast, a popular mantra was to repeat, " Every day, in every way, I am becoming better and better." Pure hogwash! The mantra is so vague as to be meaningless. S/He then devotes their attention to the accomplishment of their purpose, opening themself to an awareness of opportunities which may otherwise be overlooked; and an awareness of steps required for success (and by when), especially any changes required in themself (the changes must be believable). In devoting their attention, one needs to decide how much they desire the outcome and either how to maintain balance during the process or what sacrifice is acceptable from among other aspects of one's life. The magician can feed their purpose with any sense of dissatisfaction and frustration at delays in achievement (Cognitive Dissonance). Concentration and confidence can be facilitated by rituals, mantras, regalia and other paraphernalia, involving one’s cognitive, behavioural, affective and spiritual domains (although a true adept may ultimately dispense with such trappings).

Most people diffuse their psychic energy (attention) in hundreds of random ways. Those who flow focus their psychic energy intentionally upon the task at hand. It really boils down to knowing your goal, concentrating upon it, remaining determined and having the self-discipline to complete what you are doing.
