We have "sound administrative types" running our governments. How's that working out? We even have great intellectuals with a Nobel Prize running the show. How is that working out?

The first duty of government is to see that people have food, fuel, and clothes. The second, that they have means of moral and intellectual education Whereas it has long been known and declared that the poor have no right to the property of the rich, I wish it also to be known and declared that the rich have no right to the property of the poor John Ruskin(Born this day 1819)

"The three articles of Civil Service faith: it takes longer to do things quickly, it's more expensive to do them cheaply and it's more democratic to do them in secret."

If the misery of the poor be caused not by the laws of nature, but by our institutions, great is our sin Charles Darwin, FRS(born this day 1809)

Evolution favors breeding success, it doesn't necessarily favor intelligence or capability. The part of the equation that many discount is the selection pressures. If the environment required intelligence then Idiocracy wouldn't happen (great movie though). Lack of selective pressures, all kinds of things proliferate which is good for us in the long run. When things get tight again, the cream will rise. I just hope that I am worm food before that happens.

The first against the wall come the revolution are usually those who consider themselves the cream.

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers "Kung Fu Monkey".
