THE GOLDEN RULE
The simple injunction which if followed would solve all the problems of mankind is found in all ages and all faiths. The Golden Rule antedates Christianity and was ancient in the time of Confucius. The oldest religious writings, the Vedas which date back over 4000 years state the principle in a most practical manner.
VEDA: "Men gifted with intelligence will always treat others as they themselves wish to be treated";
BUDDA: "One should seek for others the happiness one desires for oneself";
CONFUCIUS: "What you do not wish done to yourself do not unto others";
ZORASTER: "Do not do unto others that which is not well for oneself";
MOHAMMED: "No one of you is a believer until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself";
HINDU: "The true rule of life is to guard and do by things of others as they do by their own";
JUDAISM: "Whatever you do not wish your neighbor to do to you, do not unto him";
CHRISTIAN: "All things whatever ye would that men should do unto you, do ye even unto them".

More on the negative aspect (NOT doing unto others what you would NOT have them do unto you):
As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master.
This expresses my idea of democracy
Abraham Lincoln
(Born this day 1809)
This is akin to the following by Ayn Rand (1905 - 1982):
“I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the
sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for the sake of mine”
Which, in turn, is akin to the following by John Henry Mackay (1864 - 1933):
“I am an Anarchist! Wherefore I will Not rule, and also ruled I will Not be!”
