OKAY, Sorry about caps, the history of wars, especially WW2 is far different to what is explained by the so called victors
Did the allies really win WW2, no, we came to an agreement with the germans and japenese to cease hostilities, the axis won the war
you may disagree with me, but until the truth outs, we cannot fix our problems
BTW, the ideals of frermasonry are great , but with man involved they are tainted, at best

Britain, France, the USSR were all fighting for their right to survive and to answer an invasion. We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm George Orwell (Died this day 1950)

As with other subjects, it's best to read widely. For instance, with biographies, get an overview from what are often self-serving but otherwise reliable auto-biographies and authorized biographies, then consider a few of the unauthorized biographies. Enough has been written about WWII from different perspectives to enable a serious reader to allow for any bias.

As well, there is the question of where many US sympathies and interests lay before being forced into the war by Japan.

As well, there is the question of where many US sympathies and interests lay before being forced into the war by Japan. If I may, please, interrupt for a moment in order to swing this conversation back around to Masonry... Where was our Great American [and global] Masonic Institutions during all of these events of the 20th Century? Here, we grew exponentially in numbers; but these numbers were principally made up of non-participatory dues payers who are now rapidly fading from our story. Wasn't the last half of the 20th Century a time of lost opportunities for us to help mankind to grow up with his technology? By the way, in answer to Tamarin's earlier question regarding as to how District Directors of Workings compare to District Deputies, the rank and titles between the different jurisdictions are about equal but the two jobs differ in application. In the US, the District Deputy, Grand Lecturer and Grand Representative System of Illinois FreeMasonry grew up from the Rank System used by the government during the US Mexican and Civil War. The US Civil War coincided with another conflict within the State of Illinois but within the Masonic fraternity. The 1860 dispute here in Illinois between the Conservator's Association and the Overseers of the Work controversy was essentially an argument over ritual. But the roots of it go the the constant interest then in protecting slave owners to keep possession of their property here in Illinois. Slavery was maintained under the Indentured Servitude System here even past the Civil War, though Illinois was since its inception by Federal law, free. The Masons siding with each club were drawn up also upon these political lines in addition to the ritual demarcation. Also with the architectural revisions, Illinois FreeMasonry answered the public allegations made of financial infidelity following the donations received by the fraternity following the Famous Chicago Fire of 1871 and how these proceeds were then distributed. Edmond Ronayne documented the complaints in his expose "Ronayne's Handbook." So, a sort of Masonic Marshall Law was imposed especially on the Lodges in Chicago with the invention of these three new positions then. With our 1871 Constitution came District Deputies to impose regulation, Grand Lecturers to imposed a static and unyielding ritual, and Grand Representatives to foreign jurisdictions whose purpose was to attend foreign Grand Lodges and report upon the workings and decisions of foreign jurisdictions to a central committee on foreign correspondence here (for forty years - one man) who then cast judgement on the decisions of our foreign Brothers. The Committee Reported each year to Illinois FreeMasons, deciding in the interpretation whether or not Illinois should adopt similar policies or programs or if a foreign notion of FreeMasonry was incompatible with ours. Recently we added additional layers. In 1985 Illinois introduced Area Grand Masters and Assistant Area Deputy Grand Masters in 2007. So as membership in Illinois FreeMasonry shrank in numbers exponentially, our Grand Masters added additional layers of administration whose purpose is to dispense discipline. You have yet to show how this masonic infrastructure mimics or derives from the military. Whether or not there was some military conflict going on at the time some otherwise unrelated masonic change was introduced is beside the point.

As well, there is the question of where many US sympathies and interests lay before being forced into the war by Japan. Well after the war had begun in Europe and before the U.S. were forced to join the allied war effort there was much sympathy for the Nazis' racism within the U.S. More importantly there was a tidy trade between Germany and the U.S. and high profile visits such as that of the Hindenburg in 1937 show this relationship was widely celebrated. > Brother Henry Ford receiving the Grand Cross of the German Eagle in 1938. / The ill-fated LZ-129 Hindenburg airship over New York in 1937. After W.W.2 the U.S. picked up where the Nazis left off, turning on the U.S.S.R., and developing the nuclear bomb and rocket program (with many of the original German staff). In 1948 the American Marshall Plan rewarded both Japan and Germany.
