Consolidation of resources is the usual reason for arranged marriages.

Even where resources are a consideration, the phenomenon of arranged marriages is a wide-spread exception to your universal "mate selection strategies."

Why so? It is far from an exception. We humans like sugar. If we are put in a situation that we cannot get sugar that does not mean that we don't like sugar.

It's an entirely different strategy. The "sugar" is still there, however arranged marriages tend to be more durable than couple-selected ones (suggesting the relative effectiveness of this meme).

Don't drag the analogy too far. You get my point without having to deconstruct the analogy. Arranged marriages have nothing to do with mate selection strategies, at least not directly. Perhaps that would be something worthy of study.

That falsifies nothing. An arranged marriage is certainly not a person selecting a mate for themselves. These two things (mate selection and arranged marriages) are not simply expressions of the same thing. Arranged marriages don't even take into account either person in the marriage agreement. It is done, in some cases, strictly for money or political power.

I think I see a pattern here — I'll leave it to others to make up their own minds.
