John Lane's Masonic Records is an authoritative listing of all the lodges warranted by the English Grand Lodges from the foundation of the first Grand Lodge in 1717 up to 1894. Masonic Records enables the early history of freemasonry in a particular place to be readily traced and provides an enormous range of incidental information about particular lodges. John Lane was a Torquay mason who compiled this imposing reference work in just ten years. When he presented the copyright of his work to Grand Lodge in 1895, the then President of the Board of General Purposes described it as 'perhaps the most useful masonic work ever published', a description which still holds true. This on-line version of Lane was produced by Estelle Stubbs of the Centre for Research into Freemasonry and Michael Pidd of the Humanities Research Institute. It is presented with the assistance of the Library and Museum of Freemasonry, and is intended to facilitate the updating of Lane's invaluable work. To access the initial search screen, click here.
