Last night, Tuesday, August 19, 2008, I was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason. Here are a couple of photos of myself and the Brethren: The Brethren of Sam Davis Lodge #661, F&AM. Myself and Acting W. M. Gary LeFew

Bro. Maximus,
Hearty congratulations on making the circle of your Masonic accomplishments complete. Due to a glitch on my computer at work, I will have to wait until I get home to be able to view the images.

Where Hiram Knelt
Anon.
(Courtesy W. Bro. Gordon J. Row)
Last night I knelt where Hiram knelt And took an obligation, Today I'm closer to my God, And I'm a Master Mason. Though heretofore my fellow men, Seemed each one like the other, Today I search each one apart; I'm looking for "my Brother". And, as I feel his friendly grip, It fills my heart with pride; I know that while I'm on the Square That he is on my side. His footsteps on my errand go, If I should so require; His prayers will plea on my behalf If I should so desire.
My words are safe within his breast As though within my own; His hand forever at my back To help me safely Home. Good counsel whispers in my ear And warns of any danger; By Square and Compass, Brother now! Who once called me Stranger! I might have lived a moral life And risen to distinctions Without my Brother's helping hand And fellowship of Masons. But God, who knows how hard it is, To resist life's temptations, Knows why I knelt where Hiram knelt And took that obligation.

At last I have been able to view your images: Very nice! Coming from a background where the wearing of a dark business suit, rather than a dinner suit, is considered to be casual, and despite knowing that practices vary, I was surprised at seeing open-necked, short-sleeved shirts, etc. But I guess this strips away a level of pretense and disproves the old saying that clothes maketh the man: Rather, among Masons, it is what is inside that counts. You look like a fine body of men! (BTW, what's that on your top lip? )

There were more present, but some had to leave after the first section. The elderly gentleman to my right, Bro. Sam, is our oldest member, at 89 - he's been in the Craft 51 years, distinguished WWII veteran. Never misses a meeting. The two large chaps at either end of the first row (Bros. Brent on the left, Lance on the right-who coached me on my FC proficiancy) are both Smyrna City Police Officers - the one on the left is in S.W.A.T., so we are well protected! I think a catarpillar hitched a ride on my lip. ;D I've had a moustace since I was 18, except when I went through Basic Training in the Army.
