The Australian Greens have paid tribute to the late American performer Eartha Kitt for her role in helping to save Australia's Franklin River in the 1980s.
The sultry singer, dancer and actress has died at 81 in New York of colon cancer.
Kitt visited Tasmania at the height of the national campaign to save the Franklin River in the state's south-west from being dammed, Greens leader Bob Brown said.
"Ms Kitt visited Tasmania and spoke out in favour of saving the Franklin River and gave a great boost to the campaigners in their darkest hour," Senator Brown said in a statement on Friday.
"It was a brave thing for her to do and her contribution was important to saving Tasmania's great wild river."
