This is rather cynical isn't it?
History is the study of past events, typically but not necessarily in a chronological order. Unfortunately, for many varied reasons, frequently the evidence of exactly what happened and the contemporary reason for the occurrence is missing so considerable detective work is necessary to establish the facts to the best of our ability, using other contemporary sources and extrapolating reasonable possibilities from the establishable facts

This is rather cynical isn't it? True: Hopefully the cartoon engenders a note of caution, tempered by a touch of humour. Many histories written by highly respected scholars in previous generations reveal entrenched cultural biases and assumptions. We may be well advised to consider that future generations may regard our observations as revealing as much about us as about our subject.

I would agree this is quite cynical but, very thought-provoking. Calvin and Hobbes never ceases to entertain me.
