A little girl was walking through the woods, taking her pet rabbit, Cuddles. While she took a rest in a clearing, the rabbit wandered off in search of sweet grasses and soon discovers he was lost. Hopping about, Cuddles noticed a wolf heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch.
The rabbit thought, 'Oh, oh! I'm in trouble now!' Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settled down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching wolf. Just as the wolf was about to leap the rabbit exclaimed loudly, 'Boy, that was a delicious wolf! I wonder if there are any more around here?'
Hearing this, the wolf halted his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror came over him and he slinked away into the trees. 'Whew!' said the wolf, 'That was close! That rabbit nearly had me!'
Meanwhile, a squirrel who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figured he could put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the wolf. So off he went, but Cuddles saw him go and figured that something must be up. The squirrel soon caught up with the wolf and together they struck a deal. The wolf was furious at being made a fool of and said, 'Here, squirrel, hop on my back and see what's going to happen to that conniving rabbit!
Now, Cuddles saw the wolf coming with the squirrel on his back and thought, 'What am I going to do now?', but instead of running, the rabbit sat down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and just when they get close enough to hear, said,
'Where's that damn squirrel? I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another wolf!
