The following comes from our Holy Scripture, called the "Volume of Sacred Law", that rests upon many an altar in Masonry and is one of our Great Lights to which we are guided by:
New American Standard Bible (©1995)
He created them male and female, and He blessed them and named them Man in the day when they were created.
GOD'S WORD® Translation (©1995)
He created them male and female. He blessed them and called them humans when he created them.
King James Bible
Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
American King James Version
Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
American Standard Version
male and female created he them, and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
Bible in Basic English
Male and female he made them, naming them Man, and giving them his blessing on the day when they were made.
Douay-Rheims Bible
He created them male and female; and blessed them: and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
Darby Bible Translation
Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
English Revised Version
male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
Webster's Bible Translation
Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
World English Bible
He created them male and female, and blessed them, and called their name "Adam," in the day when they were created.
Young's Literal Translation
a male and a female He hath prepared them, and He blesseth them, and calleth their name Man, in the day of their being prepared.
It is clear that our VoSL identifies all females as "Man" or an equitable version of the word that denotes this.
This raises an important question, at least in my mind: If females are considered "Man," as defined by the very VoSL that we profess guides us, what special symbolic meaning does "woman" have that requires some in Masonry to promise to not be present in the making of one into a Mason?
According to our VoSL, it can't possibly be a "gender" issue! So, what is the issue?
